Summary:Kayla has always felt a kinship with nature. Adopted as a child, Kayla has no idea that she’s inherited the gene that will turn her into a wolf. She can’t understand why she’s so drawn to distant, aloof Lucas...
As the leader of the Dark Guardians, a pack of werewolves that gather in the national forest, Lucas must watch Kayla until she discovers her destiny as his perfect other half. Just when Kayla finally begins to understand her fate, a new danger emerges...one that threatens their very existence.
Review: I'd heard so much about Rachel Hawthorne that I just had to check out her book. The one thing that really drew me to this book was the cover and after reading the summary, I was hesitant. Why? Because it had to do with werewolves!
After reading it, don't get fooled by the fact that this book has to do with werewolves. It really is a well written, good book. A very quick, enjoyable summer read, more like it.
The plot is somewhat slow, but from the first page, Hawthorne throws her readers into mystery and intrigue. The plot's pace quickens as the book progress but it get's better and better too. There is a lot of romance between Kayla and Lucas which is more the type of girl and boy dislike each other yet it is obvious they actually do like each other. This type is so often used in books, so it's very old. But, Hawthorne uses it wisely, so we don't cringe reading about it.
We learn a lot about the characters and their personalties, especially Kayla. She's a great character, very head strong and independent but she's also scared sometimes, which was nice to see.
Grade: I really liked it.
Cover: A+, I actually love this cover. The look on the girl's face is like a mixture of surprise, fear and something else I can't name.
Overall: A very satisfying, quick summer read. You should try it out!
