"Waiting On" Wednesday (56)

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Title: The List
Author: Siobhan Vivian
Publisher: ?
Release Date: April 1, 2012
An intense look at the rules of high school attraction-and the price that's paid for them.

It happens every year. A list is posted, and one girl from each grade is chosen as the prettiest, and another is chosen as the ugliest. Nobody knows who makes the list. It almost doesn't matter. The damage is done the minute it goes up.

This is the story of eight girls, freshman to senior, "pretty" and "ugly." And it's also the story of how we see ourselves, and how other people see us, and the tangled connection of the two.
I've heard nothing but great things about Siobhan Vivien's writing and I can't wait to read this one! I'm happy it comes out in April 2012 because then I can read all of her other books! But really guys, it sounds just fantastic. We don't have these kinds of lists at my high school, but come on, so many teen guys like to rate girls and their not afraid to not tell the girl in her face what they think. I wanna see how she weaves this story.
Title: The Girls of No Return
Author: Erin Saldin
Publisher: Arthur A. Levine Books
Release Date: February 28, 2012
CUT meets HATCHET in this lacerating debut about girls, knives, and redemption.

The Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness Area stretches across two million acres in northern Idaho. In its heart sits the Alice Marshall School, where fifty teenage girls come to escape their histories and themselves.

Lida Wallace has tried to negate herself in every way possible. At Alice Marshall, she meets Elsa Boone, a fierce native Idahoan; Jules, who seems too healthy to belong at the school; and Gia Longchamps, whose glamour entrances the entire camp. As the girls prepare for a wilderness trek, Lida is both thrilled and terrified to be chosen as Gia's friend. But everyone has their secrets--their "Things" they try to protect; and when those come out, the knives do as well.

THE GIRLS OF NO RETURN is a bold and powerful debut.
I like the simplicity of the cover; there's just something about it! And it sounds pretty interesting.

Title: When You Open Your Eyes
Author: Celeste Conway
Publisher: Simon Pulse
Release Date: March 20, 2012

Tessa is in love. Lucien, the son of a European diplomat, is French and sexy and artistic. With him, she realizes how naive and American she is, and just how alive she can feel.

But Tessa’s father forbids her to see Lucien. So they meet in secret, which makes their relationship feel all the more exciting.

The harder Tessa falls for Lucien, the more volatile he becomes. Suddenly it’s not just their relationship that’s breaking the rules—Lucien knows no boundaries. And Tessa must figure out how far she’ll go for Lucien…before there is no turning back.
It's a re telling of Romeo and Juliet and while I didn't like the play, I love re telling of this book!
Title:  This Is Not A Test
Author: Courtney Summers
Publisher: St. Martin's Griffin
Release Date: June 2012
It’s the end of the world. Six students have taken cover in Cortege High but shelter is little comfort when the dead outside won’t stop pounding on the doors. One bite is all it takes to kill a person and bring them back as a monstrous version of their former self. To Sloane Price, that doesn’t sound so bad. Six months ago, her world collapsed and since then, she’s failed to find a reason to keep going. Now seems like the perfect time to give up.

As Sloane eagerly waits for the barricades to fall, she’s forced to witness the apocalypse through the eyes of five people who actually want to live. But as the days crawl by, everyone’s motivations to survive begin to change in startling ways and soon the group’s fate is determined less and less by what’s happening outside and more and more by the unpredictable and violent bids for life–and death–inside.

When everything is gone, what do you hold on to?
I own all of Courtney's books and I've heard that she's an awesome author but I haven't read her work yet...but this cover AND the synopsis, IT SOUNDS FANTASTIC!

  1. This is Not A Test sounds amazing and The Girls of No Return looks really good. I haven't seen the other two books around much but I'll keep an eye out :)

  2. awww, the first one looks like it could be sad :(
